David Tilman Barker

Ambrose Barker married Mary Ann Ragland. Their son John married Sarah Wilson. Their son David Tilman was the topic of this email recently:

"Was on line and found your info on David Tilman Barker and his 5 children.
Oliver T. is listed on tombstone and death certificate as Ollie T . Barker.
He was my husband's grandfather, via Charles Macon Barker.
My husband was named for him.
Noticed you had family for Lydia Martha Barker Patterson, who was Charles Macon's sister . "

I have asked for more information on the family. I have some information on Oliver but from there it really peters out, and there are lots of gaps on the siblings. Hopefull I'll learn some more soon.

Additional Site

I also have loaded my genealogy database at Rootsweb here. This is easily searchable. This is in addition to the site mentioned in the left column.

Benjamin Barker

I recently had a pleasant exchange with Teresa B. in Virginia. She was trying to establish the identity of a certain Ben Barker in her family. I have four Benjamin Barkers in my database, none of them well-identified. One seemed a likely match, the son of Ambrose Barker and Mary Ann Ragland.

This was her initial information:
Ben W. Barker (b. ca. 1785) in 1850 he was in Regiment 98 in Mecklenburg, VA.
Wife Judith Jones (daughter of Richard Jones of Mecklenburg County)
Children:
Benjamin b. ca. 1831
Richard b.ca. 1827
Calissa Barker (married Something Rideout)

Benjamin b.10/1831 is likely Benjamin W. Jr.
He married Amanda Cleaton and both were living in Namozine, Dinwiddie, VA in 1880.
Their children:
Mary J. Barker b. 1859 in Mecklenburg, married John Alfred Springfield.
Sarah E. Barker b. 1860 Mecklenburg, married William Holy Dabney
Andrew Barker b. 1863
George Benjamin Barker b. 22 Dec 1863

Teresa is not convinced that her Ben W. Barker is the one who is son of Ambrose Barker and Mary Ann Ragland, but is hopeful she can find corroboration. If you can fill in any blanks, please leave a comment!
